Medal of Honor winner: ‘Just one of the guys’

Medal of Honor winner: 'Just one of the guys'
Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta did not want the Medal of Honor."You're crazy. You're out of your mind," Giunta said of his gut reaction to getting word he would receive America's top military award. "That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. … I truly am just one of the guys."At least that's the clean version. When Giunta — who will be honored at Sunday's Bears game — talks with …

NYC: Ed Sullivan Theater
David Letterman

The Ed Sullivan Theater, located at 1697 Broadway, was built in 1927 to the design of Herbert J. Krapp. The 1200-seat theater has been used as a venue for live and taped CBS broadcasts since 1936, most famously as the longtime home of The Ed Sullivan Show, and since 1993, it has the Late Show with David Letterman.

The 13-story, brown and terra cotta office building with a ground floor theater was built by Arthur Hammerstein from 1925-1927 and originally named Hammerstein’s Theater, after his father, Oscar Hammerstein I. The original neo-Gothic interior contained pointed-arch stained-glass windows with scenes from the elder Hammerstein’s operas, which were removed and placed in storage by CBS in 1993. The theater’s first production was the three-hour musical, Golden Dawn, which featured Cary Grant, then still using his birth name, Archie Leach, as the second male lead.

In 1931, after Arthur Hammerstein went bankrupt and lost ownership of the building, it became the Manhattan Theater, and then Billy Rose’s Music Hall. In 1936, CBS secured a long-term lease and architect Williams Lescaze renovated the interior, keeping nearly all of the Krapp design but covering many walls with smooth white panels. The theater, which carried various names during the network’s tenancy, including Radio Theater #3 and CBS Radio Playhouse, debuted with a broadcast of the Major Bowes Amateur Hour.

In 1950 it was converted for television, when it became CBS-TV Studio 50. Just a few years later, Ed Sullivan moved his eponymous variety show, originally named Toast of the Town, from the Maxine Elliott Theatre. In 1965, it was converted to color, and the first color episode of The Ed Sullivan Show originated from the theater on October 31, 1965. Studio 50 was named in Sullivan’s honor at the beginning of the 1967-68 season. The studio was one of CBS’ busiest stages, also hosting The Honeymooners and the Merv Griffin Show, as well as many game shows including What’s My Line?, To Tell the Truth, Password and The ,000 Pyramid.

CBS’ lease expired in 1981 and, as a Reeves Entertainment teletape facility, it hosted the sitcom Kate & Allie. In 1990 David Niles/1125 Productions signed onto the lease, with the theater to house his HDTV studio and new Broadway show Dreamtime, until CBS bought the 1993 to serve as the new home for David Letterman’s late night talk show, which was switching networks from NBC to CBS. The theater was reconfigured by Polshek Partnership into a 400-seat studio, with lighting and sound adjustments.

David Letterman Trivia!
I’m reading US Weekly magazine right now that was printed last week and it’s promoting the interview and it says to stay tuned to hear her thoughts on Tina Fey & David Letterman. I watched the interview and didn’t hear anything about them. Did I miss something?

Answer by Chuck
She accused Tina Fey of saying things that she really didn’t say like, “I can see Russia from my house!”

I found that a little strange because you can’t hold a comic accountable for making things up because that’s their job.

All in all Palin did a good job of promoting her book but she did a bad job telling the truth.
