She totally nails it by showing how one big lie – that 0 million a day is being spent on President Obama’s trip to Asia this week – bounced around from Rush Limbaugh to Glenn Beck to Sean Hannity to Michelle Bachmann. Complete fabrications are cited as fact, and then are repeated constantly, thus reinforcing the lie. Rachel does the kind of reporting that CBS, NBC and ABC used to do.

This is exactly why so many Americans think the health insurance reform bill was a socialistic takeover of health care – it’s a lie that is repeated over and over again. The right wing cares absolutely nothing about the truth, only about gaining and holding power.

This was a shot that I originally took back on the March DILO on March 20, 2008 but I think it’s a fitting metaphor for recently.

Barack Obama has come under fire from the right wing echo chamber as of late for speaking the truth about a commonly known sociological concept – "blaming the other."

The Sean Hannities of the world are claiming he’s somehow elitist for pointing out that people cling to guns and religion when they face hardships. And this was probably out of line by Obama to say since it’s a completely different idea than the true point of the speech.

His true point was that people, when faced with hardship, turn anti-immigrant.

Thankfully the people in, for example, Ohio realize the real problem isn’t that immigrants are coming into the country and taking jobs, its that the economic system rewards profits for a single company (through paying subsistance wages overseas) versus helping the general economy.

Now it’s economic theory that people pay more when wages are higher (but that’s partly because CEOs like to take the decreased labor costs and put them in their own pockets). But if there are no jobs, people can’t pay at all and we get, SURPRISE, a recession.

And the people in Ohio aimed their anger right where it belongs, at NAFTA and CAFTA which allow corporations to run roughshod over the domestic economy by that giant sucking sound.

Or they turn to things that give them comfort like guns and religion when their world turns upsidown.

Now, people realized this right around 2006 and opinion poll after opinion poll in both parties show it.

Sean Hannity would like to claim that it’s "not the America that he knows."

Thankfully he lost touch with America about two years ago as did Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and the rest of the "hide the economic truth" crowd (some of whom, despite even the highest economic officials in the land admitting it, still won’t say we’re in a recession). Their ratings are showing it.

I wish that Obama hadn’t said what he said, but it’s not like it’s untrue.
