A page in my college portfolio about my photography: the photographs from London, in August 2010.

Text reads:
I went to London for three days in August 2010
where I visited places such as Buckingham Palace,
The London Eye, The Houses of Parliament, and
other attractions around London. All of the
photographs I took were with my digital SLR,
Sony alpha a230.
Above: A photograph I took from Westminster
Bridge of Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament.
I used Photoshop to crop the photo as there were
some people on the side which would distract
the view. I converted to black and white because
I thought it looked better for this shot, and I
liked the taxi being the only vehicle on the road.
I altered the contrast in this photograph to add
impact to the black and white effect, however
I think this photograph and the others
(especially on this page) are generally under-exposed
and I have found that printed photographs
can look darker than on the screen

Above: A photograph I took of Big Ben and The Houses
of Parliament taken from the other side. I took many
photographs like this as I was waiting for the opportunity
to get a London bus in the shot on its own. Even this shot
isn't great because the bus is slightly blurry and blocks the
building, but I like the fact Big Ben is still showing
which shows it's in a popular area of London.
I did a lot of Photoshop work including converting to
black and white, but cutting out the bus, (and the
pedestrian stop sign) into separate layers to keep
them in colour. This shows the significance
of the red buses in London, and the black and white
creates a better urban atmosphere. I used the burn tool
to darken the cloudy sky, but overall this photograph
could also do with a general boost of exposure to show
all its detail.

I used HDR to create a dramatic atmosphere in the stormy
sky, and to reflect the power of the location
and its significance. The photograph may
appear unnatural, and it is under exposed,
especially on the building itself, which
decreases the details. This could be fixed in
Photoshop by using the dodge tool to brighten the building,
and keep the rest of the scene dark.
