Drunk Drivers Dent Things

The first week in January, my husband and I were riding our bicycles in Griffith Park when he was hit from behind by a drunk driver who was doing at least 50 in a park that’s posted 25 MPH. A park where golfers, joggers, horses, and kids and pets are extremely common, not to mention cyclists.

My husband, by the way, was a special ed teacher specializing in the severe end of the autism spectrum disorders. For 10 years he took care of the worst case scenarios in the LA area.

The drunk driver, by the way, is perfectly fine albeit in jail.

We were following the rules of the road, riding in a bike lane. My husband was thrown 30 feet and suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result. After a week in a coma, and four months in the hospital where he came close to dying more than once, he’s finally back home but won’t be returning to work any time soon.
