AC/DC Trivia!
I have an elliptical that requires a 6 volt/2 amp ac/dc adapter to power it. I have a 12 volt/1 amp ac/dc adapter that works to power it. Will anything bad happen if I continue to power it with a 12 volt/1 amp adapter instead of a 6 volt/2 amp adapter? Thanks.

Answer by billrussell42
yes, you are applying too much voltage. and not enough current.

I’m surprised it works!

You may be lucky, and the 12 volt supply drops to about 6 volts when it is heavily loaded. But that means you are overloading the adapter, and I’d expect it to overheat and eventually pop a fuse.

It’s also possible that something in the appliance is being overloaded, and it may eventually start to smoke.
