Depp is a very good actor and plays a lot of different characters but the way he acts and embodies his characters is always very similar. It’s like his characters play Johnny Depp and not the other way.

He is very quirky, but he has played some very good rolls where he is nothing like he is in other films.
movies such as the “secret window”. that was the first movie I ever seen him in. and could not believe that he was the same guy that played Jack Sparrow.
I suggest you watch the Secret window. it is an incredible psychological thriller. my favourite of all time.
