I just got in a discussion with my uncle as to why TV shows are on so late like the local news, Letterman, and The tonight show on an hour later in the eastern time zone compared to other time zones like central, mountain and pacific time zones? What is the reasoning behind that?

And it’s not just them but all the network prime time shows. IMHO, prime time should be at 7PM in every time zone. Kinda how Canada does it.
